The fall is one the best times of year to take a Canada vacation package to Eastern Canada. The days are generally still warm and sunny, and the countryside is dressed in brilliant colors - reds, crimsons, oranges and golds - set against a sky of azure blue.
And there is nothing better than getting out in all this beauty and leisurely cycling through picturesque French villages along the St. Lawrence River.
This adventure starts in quaint Quebec City and follows an historic itinerary known as the Navigator’s Route.
Most of the roads are now paved and well sign-posted, but you will follow the same path as the first explorers - Jacques Cartier, and the founder of Québec City, Samuel de Champlain.
The gently rolling, quiet country roads on the southern shore of the mighty Saint Lawrence River take you to quaint Québeçois villages including five of the ‘25 Most Beautiful Villages in the Province’.
You will rest in truly unique places on vacations in Canada; imagine a cozy, wood-floored mansion set among beautiful gardens.
In Trois-Pistoles, when the fog rolls in from the river, the jazz bar becomes a favorite retreat, and your exquisite inn will charm you with its rural flair.
According to local lore, this is where you can meet the devil if you visit the cross in the gleam of the full moon.
As you cycle along the St. Lawrence River’s banks, observing the shorebirds and wildlife, admiring the waterfront homes reminiscent of turn-of-the-century seaside resorts, and marveling at the traditional eel nets reaching out to sea, you might even catch a glimpse of passing whales.
Evenings of your Canada vacation package are spent enjoying the sun setting over the Charlevoix Mountains north of the river - rated by National Geographic as one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.

YOUR ITINERARY
(Note - as this is a self-guided cycling vacation package - supported by our detailed guidance & vehicle to transport your luggage - you may choose the shortest route or take side-tours to places of interest along the way.)
Day 1 - Your Cycling Vacation Package Begins - Arrive in Quebec City
Step off your flight and into a little bit of Europe in North America! With its city walls, cobbled streets, and centuries-old buildings, Quebec City has Old-World charm and New-World energy. A guided city tour helps you get your bearings and shows you the fascinating highlights.
Afterwards, get your Canada vacation off to the perfect start by relaxing in a sidewalk bistro and sampling some of the signature French food and wine that is a feature of this great little getaway.
Day 2 - La Pocatiere to Kamouraska (About 50km - 31 miles)
Today you leave the city and are transferred to the village of La Pocatière - gateway to Bas Saint Laurent. Your cycling vacation begins! Pick up your bike and ride along quiet country roads to St.Pacôme, the first of several villages you pass through that have been recognized as among Québec’s ‘25 Most Beautiful Villages’.
Continue along the St. Lawrence River to Kamouraska, famous for its medieval festival and the archipelago off its shores. The water retreats so far at low tide that some of the islands can be reached on foot - so if you venture over there try not to get caught by the rising tide! Overnight in Kamouraska.
Day 3 - Canada Cycling Vacation Package Continues to Notre-Dame-du-Portage (About 48km - 30 miles)
Leave Kamouraska today for some coast and country riding, as you wind your way along what is now the estuary of the St. Lawrence. We suggest a stop for lunch at ‘Les Battures Ecologiques’, with a spectacular view of the Laurentian Mountains. Then, if you are in a fit state after your lovely French lunch and wine, continue with an afternoon ride to your overnight stop, Notre-Dame-du-Portage - another village noted for its beauty. Breakfast & dinner included in your package.
Day 4 - Notre-Dame-du-Portage to Trois-Pistoles (About 81 km - 50 miles)
Embrace history and culture on vacations in Canada! Today’s ride takes you to the picturesque village of Cacouna, whose name derives from an Indian word for “land of the porcupine’’. Along the coast, you may catch sight of the whales frequently seen offshore, before you reach Trois-Pistoles, marked by the tall steeple of the enormous church of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Stop at the government wharf to take in the view of Ile aux Basques, where Basque fishermen rendered whale fat long before Jacques Cartier arrived. Breakfast included. Overnight in Trois-Pistoles.
Day 5 - Trois Pistoles to Le Bic (About 60 km -38 miles)
Today, on your Canada vacation package, you enjoy cycling a little inland to explore the Basque Highlands, followed by a stop to buy some local delicacies and at a lookout where wild falcons are frequently seen flying from the cliffs. Then cycle to the village of Bic, and, if you are feeling energetic, try some of the miles of biking trails in Le Bic Provincial Park. Breakfast and dinner included.
Day 6 - Le Bic & return to Quebec City
Vacations in Canada bring relaxation and time to choose what you want to do; explore the lovely terrain around Le Bic, or take a trip to Reford Gardens - before an afternoon transfer back to Quebec City.
This evening, perhaps, you enjoy a final dinner in a French bistro and reflect on the highlights of your healthy, fun and deeply satisfying ride through French villages in the Fall colors of Canada. Overnight in Quebec City. Breakfast included.
Day 7 - Depart Quebec City
This morning, alas, much too soon your cycling Canada vacation package comes to an end.
